I wasn't planning to write this post about Chef Eyal Shani's Port Said restaurant. A restaurant that I wasn't scheduled in my schedule, but for me any restaurant on the way is a great reason to write. Especially when I got to it while combining my double life, High Tech, and yam.
It all started when I arrived at the offices of our friends at Taboola, because after a long period of working together, I should come to see how good their life is. As soon as my foot landed there, I was handed a cup of all the goodies of Golda ice cream, which happened to open a cute booth for the office workers, and as soon as they saw I was calm we started the planned meeting. The meeting was ended and the Taboola offered to continue the indulgence mode from before, when of course they know who they are dealing with, and invited us to a delicious meal at one of the Tel Aviv restaurants that is nice to sit in during the light hours of the day. There were several options, of which we chose to go to Port Said, mainly because I had never been there, and it had been on my list for too long.
The restaurant is very simple and casual. One that does not claim to host a blown-up event and is better suited to casual situations, style what we have experienced. The food is nice, allows to enjoy the people that came with us, and the service was also nice and matched exactly the character of the restaurant. At least that is the way I experienced the whole thing.
We started with the mid menu, with an order of a few dishes, and continued with the evening menu, which opens at 18:00, with lots of dishes in the center of the table.
A bag of Jericho beans green (NIS 38), scented with garlic, lemon and olive oil. The beans are made of exactly as I like it, a little hard but also soft enough to enjoy it. Feeling the garlic taste and it also came wrapped in lots of oil, and stayed at the table as a snack throughout the meal. #yammmmm
Eggplant Core (34 NIS), wrapped in tahini, tomato seeds and hot pepper. Delicious dish, as expected. There is no greater fun than a piece of bread going through all the goodness of a plate straight into your mouth to get familiar flavors of tahini and eggplant. #yammmmm
Blue Lips potato (32 NIS), baked, burning with heat, wrapped in cream. The potato is hot and soft, topped with the cream that provides the coolness that needed, a little spicy and it is the best structure it could get. Make sure in every bite that there is potato, cream, spicy and some coarse grains of salt placed on the serving paper and it's a yam. #yammmmm
Ratatouille (48 NIS), roasted eggplant in tomato perfume and egg. It comes with a slice of bread, tear off a piece of it and place this delicious stew on it. It comes very hot and soft and along with the egg it is really favorite flavors of Sabih. #yammmmm
Lima Bean Masbaha (38 NIS), wrapped in olive oil, tomato and hot pepper. A dish I was less attached to, a very ordinary bean flavor. Nice. #yammmmm
Scorched Leek (42 NIS), in olive oil, sea salt and parmesan chips. A beautiful dish. Very simple, because it was all about leeks and parmesan, and it was very tasty. The leek is warm and soft, and each of its strips falls apart with a light touch of the fork, the parmesan is a bit stiff and gives a deep cheesy taste, and together it is a contrast that works great not only for the eyes but also inside the mouth. #yammmmm
Roasted Artichoke (46 NIS), wrapped in lemon butter and yogurt stone sprinkled on top. Very simple but for me it is accurate. There's nothing to do, I see artichokes on the menu and I have to order the dish, and rightly so. Here too we made sure to eat the tip of each leaf as the cheese flavor blends in superbly and the lemon butter couldn’t have caressed the artichoke better. The top of the artichoke was soft and full of lemon flavors and it was stunning. #yammmmm
Intimate Chunks of Butchers (68 NIS), roasted for 5 hours with vegetables and tahini. The meat was a delicacy, disintegrating lightly with every touch. I was less attached to the vegetables, they did come in excellent texture as a contrast to the dish but in their flavors it worked less, and also the combination of the tahini with all this was not the most successful match. #yammmmm
Roast Beef Carpaccio (58 NIS), wrapped in olive oil, tomato seeds and hot peppers. A dish of thin, made roast beef pieces that get light flavors thanks to the tomato seeds scattered on top and the spiciness that comes with the dish. I liked. #yammmmm
It's a #yammmmm
