After months of planning, I arrived at Chef Tomer Tal's George & John restaurant. A restaurant that entered to the 9th place in the BEST 50 ranking.
We arrived at the restaurant, sat down in a tiny place. We were given menus, we saw the expensive prices of the dishes. But we decided to give it a try anyway, because we might find it really worth it. So we ordered a few dishes according to the waiter's recommendation and hoped it would be a mind - blowing experience.
And here's a spoiler, no, it was not worth it. But even though I've already revealed my opinion about the restaurant, I will not be bad and tell you a little about the experience.
We started with a dish of Charcoal-Roasted Kohlrabi (80 NIS), with pomegranate vinaigrette, chive oil, doa spice and feta cheese. Overall a tasty dish, but a dish I have already seen in several places recently. In general it is a well-known style to burn a vegetable (kohlrabi / artichoke) and add salty cheese. So I do not feel that they have renewed anything in this dish, other than perhaps the vinaigrette which gave a slightly interesting taste. But, if you have already brought a dish that we are familiar with, I would have been happy for more salt and also for the cheese to be more interesting. #yammmmm
Blue Runner Tartare (90 NIS), with crispy quinoa, kohlrabi, orange sauce and Persian lemon. A dish with an impressive and beautiful serving on oyster, which was also very tasty, with orange and fresh Asian flavors that completely matched the flavors I love. #yammmmm
Grilled Asparagus on a Charcoal Grill (90 NIS), with fried caper vinaigrette and garlic, cheese and hyssop. A dish with interesting flavors, especially a delicious Parmesan flavor from the cream, and according to the waiter there were also some kind of dried mushrooms that gave a nice twist of an unfamiliar salty taste, along with the pleasant garlic grains on the plate. #yammmmm
Homemade Potato Gnocchi and Ricotta (115 NIS), with black spinach, parmesan, sun-dried tomatoes and Turkish spinach. A delicious dish, but I got a dish I have seen before. It's great that the restaurant knows how to make soft gnocchi as I like, and also soft and delicious cheese, but I think you can do more than that. #yammmmm
"Middle East" Dumplings (115 NIS), with smoked mushrooms, herbs, olive oil sauce, white wine and greens. A dish of delicious Chinese dumplings, comes with lots of greens and mushrooms that made me less attached to the flavors of the dish in general. I think mostly because of the salty taste that came from the mushrooms. #yammmmm
